Groundwork Trusts

I have carried out a number of projects for Groundwork Trusts and Groundwork UK.

I was retained on a part time basis as the Business Development Manager for Groundwork Macclesfield and Vale Royal in 1998/9 and investigated the expansion of the Trust throughout Cheshire. This involved negotiation at a senior level with local authorities, Training and Enterprise Councils and the private sector.

I have carried out a feasibility study for Chester City Council and the Groundwork National Office to investigate the potential for Groundwork to operate in Chester. This has involved discussions with a range of senior officers of the Council and of other organisations in the city and the running of a workshop.

A Green Business Parks project for Groundwork Macclesfield and Vale Royal has consisted of a survey of waste and recycling and environmental improvements on three industrial estates in Cheshire.

I have carried out a feasibility study for Wrexham Groundwork investigating the potential for the Trust to expand into Flintshire. This involved consultations with senior staff of the local authority and other Flintshire organisations and the preparation of a report for the Welsh Office.

Groundwork Rossendale appointed me to carry out an initial assessment of their Countryside Centre at Rawtenstall. A report was prepared which recommends the future development of the site as a riverside park and environmental arts centre.

I carried out a short review of Local Agenda 21 in the north-west of England for Groundwork UK. The study aimed to identify the potential role for Groundwork Trusts in partnership with their Local Authorities to progress LA21.

I have researched and drafted a promotional publication on cycling in the north west of England for the Groundwork Regional Office.

I was commissioned by Groundwork Wales and the County Borough Councils of Torfaen and Newport to prepare an independent report assessing the potential for a new Groundwork Trust. This involved recommendations concerning the size of the Trust, its staffing needs, early work programme and five-year income and expenditure budget.

I was retained by Groundwork Lincolnshire on an 8 days a month basis to progress a European Union Action Plan Partnership bid for some £2mill concerned with derelict and neglected land restoration and sustainable management. I have also developed new projects for the Trust involving the regeneration of a coastal resort and the establishment of a new trust for tree planting in the Boston area.

In 2003/4 I have carried out a feasibility study to create a new Groundwork Trust for Corby and North Northamptonshire including the preparation of bid document to the ODPM.

In 2004 and 2005 I carried out appraisals to create three new Groundwork Trusts for North Staffordshire, Luton and Bedfordshire and Derby and Derbyshire. These studies involved considerable consultation with local authorities and other stakeholders and the preparation of ODPM bid documents and financial profiles.
