A Selection of CEI Consultancy Contracts
The following is a summary of a selection
of consultancy contracts with which I have played a
major role whilst with the Centre for Environmental
Interpretation (CEI), Manchester Metropolitan University.
1996 Pentland
Hills Interpretation Plan
A plan prepared for the Pentland Hills Regional
Park in Scotland to identify projects to enhance
interpretation facilities and services. The
plan identified a number of projects and indicated
the necessary capital and revenue budgets
required. The opportunity to establish a new
charitable trust to support the work of the
Regional Park and to assist in fund raising
was suggested. |

1995/6 Bulgaria
Management Development Fund
A contract with the British Know How Fund
(British Council) to advise on the establishment
of a centre for advice and training on heritage
and environmental interpretation in Bulgaria.
Two experimental training courses were run
in Bulgaria. |

1995 Trafford
Ecology Park
A study for the Trafford Park Development
Corporation and the Groundwork Trust on the
development and management options for an
environmental education and training centre,
including financial projections. |

1995 Lee Valley
Regional Park, London
A feasibility study (with Land Use Consultants)
giving options for the development of the
Essex filter beds site in the Lee Valley Regional
Park. The study identified the potential for
a new visitor attraction based on the principles
of sustainability and suggested a broad layout
of the site and indicative capital and revenue
costs. |

1995 Public Access
and Carrying Capacity for Nature Reserves
in Wales
A research study for the Countryside Council
for Wales to establish a methodology for decision
making regarding acceptable levels of recreational
use on nature reserves in Wales. The methodology
was further refined at two subsequent training
courses. |

1994/5 Peak Tourism
Partnership Interpretation Plans
An eighteen-month contract for the Peak Tourism
Partnership to work with eight local communities
in the Peak District to produce local interpretation
plans. The contract involved holding a series
of workshops with local community groups and
evolving proposals that helped to manage visitor
pressures and to better present the local
environment and heritage to the public. An
overall strategy group for interpretation
of the Peak District steered the work. |

1992 Tweed Interpretation
Plan
Scottish Borders Enterprise was concerned
to make more positive use of the River Tweed
as a tourism and marketing asset for the region.
A steering group was formed and a plan prepared
which identified ten major initiatives for
raising awareness of the river and its scientific,
aesthetic and economic importance. |

1990/1 Development
Opportunities in the Natural Environment of
the Highlands
A strategic plan (prepared with ASH and Cousins
Stevens) for Highland Regional Council and
others for the long range use and development
of the natural and scenic resources of the
Region. The plan recognised the need for sustainable
development opportunities and recommended
twelve strategic projects, the majority of
which have been implemented. |
